Well, technically, the lucky chick is currently captured, so I dont think her luck extends to her friends at this moment in the story.
As for killing named characters, Fire. Always use Fire.

At least Charles is less likely to die now. Technically, he's not a nameless redshirt anymore, since he has a name. Yaaaay!

Actually, it is Sal's luck that the shot missed. Since she now wants the ritual to be "completed", and is basically useing Mary, Sue, Marty, and Gary as a distraction (hence Sal telling her friends to focus on fighting the strong people that contribute nothing to the ritual), she needs both sides to live and fight as long as they can.
